Klassic Kolbert: Revisiting Stephen Colbert on ‘The Daily Show’

By Ms Interpreted on February 18th, 2008 ·

Since we’re in a hiatus week and there hasn’t been any Stephen-related news to speak of (AND we can visit The Daily Show’s website again!), it seems as good a time as any to celebrate some “Klassic Kolbert” moments. Today’s clips will focus on Stephen Colbert interacting with some of his former co-workers; much as I adore The Colbert Report, it’s hard to deny how delightful Stephen was in some of these old segments with Steve Carell and Jon Stewart. Since the “Prince Charles/banana” clip and most of the “Even Stevphen” segments (understandably) appear on most of these lists, I’ve tried to add in a few of the perhaps less obvious selections. There were so many to choose from, though, so I apologize in advance if I’ve omitted your favorite — I could easily have posted fifty of these!

1. April 3rd, 2001: U.S. Crewmen Held Prisoner

2. September 16th, 2003: Recall Recalled

3. October 1st, 2001: Inflection

4. October 10th, 2001: From U.S. (it helps if you watch the lead-in segment, Semi-Cas Airdrop, first; I just love Stephen’s interruption in the clip embedded below)

5. February 14th, 2005: The Gates

6. October 11th, 2001: Pitch (and the Moment of Zen from that night: Shirtless)

Sorry, Olivia; I went back and edited the links into the original post.

MotherLoad always works fine for me (except for the occasional slowness), so I tend to forget that it’s so temperamental for a lot of people.

“Until he had achieved ‘Not-Sandwich’”

So sexy with the goatee…
And I love the look on his face when he fondles the woman at the party. So boyish and mischevious.

LOL! Thanks for the memories. Being a NY’er and having a WTF response to the installation at the time, this Gates segment is one of my all time faves, plus Stephen looks amazing in it w/ his goatee and the orange behind him.

THANKS!!!!

Those three men are great together and it’s wonderful seeing Steve Carell again. I have missed him so much (due to the strike that just ended).

I have no idea how Colbert kept it together on the first clip when Carell was having his faux meltdown.

“Me love tit….That was not going for your face by the way” Very funny. I hadn’t seen that clip before.

Thanks for all these. I hadn’t seen some of those clips before.

I didn’t realize that Steve Carell could be so *hysterically* funny. Describe the torture….lol

This has always been one of my favorites.

The Moment of Zen from this ep was also pretty good.

A couple more requests–the one in which Stephen gets Steve drunk in honor of spring break; another bit discussing how his father was a turd father and his grandfather was a goat ball licker (probably not a family-friendly thing to mention, but I’m quoting that last statement verbatim), in response to Obama saying his father was a goat farmer.

Hahahahaaaa! “I’m sorry, I’ve run out of crap.” *picks self up off floor*

@Fifi,
Great clip! I can’t even imagine how much fun the two of them had filming that piece. Would DIE to see a gag reel from that.

Ahhh! The Ted Hitler video on the side! I haven’t seen that since it was originally on tv. I love how Jon absolutely cannot make eye contact with Stephen.

does anyone remember WHY he had a semi-beard in the Gates clip?
(assuming there was any reason at all…)

@LeeQuick:

I think it was his attempt at looking “artsy.”
