Slow news weekend

Boy, it’s been a quiet weekend for Stephen news, huh? Since there’s really nothing new to report, here’s a quick look back at some video highlights from the week:

    I second auds’ sentiments…

    WELCOME BACK WRITERS!!! I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us after the break. I know it’s gonna be good.

    I can still hear the Hallelujah chorus in the background. : )

    @Ms Interpreted:

    The title made me laugh. Lulls can be nice sometimes. It was a frantic and unusual January/early Feb for late-night hosts. Stewart and Colbert both found successful, though definitely off the usual kilter, grooves. The Conan/Huckabee crossover was a really well-timed “climactic humor” event. As things calmed down the major primaries happened, the political scene shook out, and then the strike was finally over. Two days with writers and a week off.

    I hope Jon Stewart doesn’t take the Oscar pressure too seriously. He’s in a no-fail position — no one could be expected to show top form under the circumstances. He should treat it just as he said in his press release comment after the host invitation was announced: “I’m thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time’s a charm.”

    My non-professional thought on the matter would be for Jon Stewart to play the host straight rather than purposefully humorous. Sort of David Niven-style. The jokes should charm the actors (SAG). I plan on watching the Awards this year, breaking a (cited) promise of never again after Helen Hunt won Best Actress. The films which garnered major nominations are fairly grim, the story of a surprise teenage pregnancy the most “light-hearted” plotline among them. Even the movie titles themselves sound like punchlines to a jokes gone awry. There’s not much naturally happy material. I think Stewart can be witty and elegant in a tux without trying, and that’s the perfect host. But what do I know? Good luck Jon! I believe you will again successfully navigate the experience!

    @auds:

    The week was good, but the best moments were vicarious: goofball as it was, my *favorite* moment was from TDS, about Westminster (not surprisingly). The “war on terrier” cracked me up, in part because it recalled Kids in the Hall Bruce McCulloch singing “Terriers.” And shallow as it may seem ;P I may never get enough of John Oliver’s correspondent resport, “Wh-wh-what? A beagle wins Westminster?! Good heavens!” as he faints flat. ;D To quote a comment traceyuk once made here at NFZ, “GAH!! **runs around in circles and doesn’t know why** lol.”

    Thanks tracey; I haven’t found a better phrase to describe certain positive responses. :) :)

    Sorry if this was too off-topic. My usual toast to NFZ and the incredible work they do. And to echo Lisa, WELCOME BACK WRITERS!!!
