The writers are back! The writers are back!

By Ms Interpreted on February 14th, 2008 ·

Okay, we’ll get to the full episode guide soon, but I just had to bounce up and down with joy about the return of the writers ASAP. Welcome back!!

Missed seeing Eric Drysdale in there, but I thought the inclusion of Tiki Barber, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judy Miller, Kevin Bacon and Mr. Met was hilariously random.

So much love for the writers! Oh, it’s great to see you back!!

EDITED TO ADD: It has been verified by the NFZ staff that Eric Drysdale is no longer writing for The Colbert Report.

Was Mikhail Baryshnikov in there too? Ha ha, I missed that!

In regard to last night’s episode:
“That’s the oldest thing your tongue has come in contact with…” Sorry Jane Fonda,, but Stephen’s reply to that was hysterical!

So glad the writers are back and I look forward to the return of the WORD as well!

Only one thing to say- Wow!

They needed to make clearer who the faux writers were. Baryshnikov went by so fast that I didn’t even know it was him until Stephen said his name! I guess the joke was that you needed to be sharp enough to catch who those people were. Which, apparently, I am not.

Glad the writers are back, but last night’s show didn’t seem all that different from the writer-less ones. I’m sure they have to get back to the routine and it can’t all pop back to normal in one day.

I’ll get to that episode guide tonight – I had a LOOOOONG day at work yesterday and had to be at work early today. (As you can see, I’m being quite productive).

DARN YOU “REAL” JOB! DARN YOU TO HECK!!!!

The writers went by a little fast for me as well, until I saw Kevin Bacon. But I did wonder what Mr. Met would bring to the writing table… XD

@DB
Sorry “the Man” is keeping you down…

Mikhail Baryshnikov??? How did I miss him? Either he did go by really fast, or I didn’t recognize him. OTOH, Mr. Met made me laugh really hard.

I totally missed Stephen’s reply to the “that’s the oldest thing your tongue has come in contact with” comment. I’ll have to catch it on the rerun tonight.

I didn’t catch it till I saw Kevin Bacon either, and even that went by so fast that I wasn’t sure it was really him. I was just so happy to see the writers back. I hate it when I have to have a joke explained, but thanks for the clues.

@SD
Even though most of the show is written the same day, some of TCR material is written in advance of the actual day of taping. I figured we might not see segments like the Word last night since the writers were just coming back, they had to jump right in and put together a whole show, and there was no prewritten material to fall back on. I imagine we will see more of the segments we are used to after they return from next week’s hiatus.

I missed Baryshnikov. I’ll have to rewatch the video. I didn’t realize that celebrities were being mixed in with the writers until Tikki Barber came out and then it still didn’t completely register in my brain until I saw Kevin Bacon.

@DB
Work gets in the way of my interests too! I wish I could just play in the Internet all day. :-)

I really want to believe that Kevin Bacon somehow contributes to writing the Colbert Report. His appearance with the other writers certainly increase that chance. ;)

Well, I must be dumb, because Kevin Bacon is the only one I recognized. Looking at the clip again, I can see Baryshnikov, but I think that could have been played better. I’m not sure the audience got the joke either, to be honest.
Any taping reports from anyone? Curious how Stephen was in the warmup …

Hee! I loved that he didn’t make a big deal out of the additional “writers.” It was incredibly good to see them again.

And Laura Krafft knows how to make a stage entrance. Brava!

MIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV!!! I have a big poster of him right above my desk. I think I’ve been in love with him since I was eight! Words can not desribe the incredible amount of happiness I just experienced.

I would have liked a nice twirl or something from Baryshnikov. Maybe he and Stephen could’ve danced together?

I totally missed Baryshnikov, but my husband almost had an aneurysm laughing over Tiki Barber’s appearance. What a wonderful gesture when Stephen introduced all the writers — there was a long standing ovation and “woo whoo”-ing in my living room last night, for sure. What a wonderful way to return.

We’re so glad you’re back, writers!!!

*Hears Hallelujah chorus in the background*

PS–Our celebratory pint of Americone Dream was soooo goooood! Mmmmm…

I loved the utterly random writer extras, esp. Tiki and Misha B. WELCOME BACK hero writers.

- @Laura, I once got in an elevator w/ Peter Martins, he smiled down at me from his godlike height ;)

Where’s Allison Silverman?

OMG that was Judith Miller…

ROFLMAO. God I love this show.

@ vigwig,

I’m just guessing here, but since Allison’s also an executive producer (like Stephen), she would have been working during the strike. Maybe the “Welcome back, Writers” parade was more of a celebration of the ones who had been away from the office during the strike … ?

@MsI
I thought Rich Daum was also an co-exec producer and yet he was there. That’s why I am confused. Also any further word on Eric Drysdale being MIA?

@ vigwig,

Allison Silverman and Rich Dahm have different titles. Allison and Rich were both promoted to co-executive producer at the same time last year, but Allison was bumped up to executive producer last Fall. Since she’s more of a “showrunner” now, I’m sure she would have been working during the strike. I’m less clear on what Rich’s precise duties are, but it seems to be more of a producer/writer mix than what Allison does.

As for Eric, see my edit to the post above.

@MsI, Ah OK, thanks for clearing that up. Her not being in the group photo was a little weird though. Sorry to hear about Drysdale. Thanks and best of luck to him.

@ vigwig: I think I saw Allison in the group photo, partly obscured behind Mr. Met. I’d have to watch it again to be sure.

@ Ann G.,

Oh, thanks for mentioning that! I’d noticed it, too, but forgotten to include it in my prev. comment. It was definitely one of those “blink and you miss it” appearances.

Nooo…Eric Drysdale is gone? *sniffle* No more appearances by “Bobby”? Wow…(speculation alert) I can’t imagine it was a benevolent situation though, considering the timing of his departure and all. Bummer.

26

@ Lisa,

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Eric’s been writing for The Daily Show and/or The Colbert Report since 2000; it’s entirely probable that he chose to do something else for a while.

27

@ Ms. I,
Good point…hadn’t thought of that. Well, good luck to him, wherever he is now. : (

28

Ah I didn’t even know who the other 3 were! I only recognised Kevin Bacon lol, so great to see the writers =D I hope Eric Drysdale comes back just for one last appearance as Bobby!

29

Bobby WHYYYYYY??!

So who thinks Tiki, Misha, Judy, Kevin and Mr. are auditioning for the stage manager spot?

Reply

I can never watch the show the same again. I seriously can’t.

Reply

Bummer about Eric. Anyone know why he left or where he went to?

PS: Does this make Tiki Barber Stephen’s new black friend?

Reply

Wtf? No more Eric Drysdale?!?!?! That’s just f&%ked up!!!
