I believe this is what we call, “Late to the party”

Chuck Norris is chiming in (now?!) to take credit for Huckabee. From WorldNetDaily (internal links omitted):

Did Conan, Colbert or Stewart create Huckabee?

Did you catch the great showdown this past week? No, not Super Tuesday. But the late night television comedian battle over who discovered and “made” GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee?

While Republicans and Democrats were slugging it out at the polls, three kingpins of comedy were in chortle combat for the rights as creator of the GOP contender and his surge in this election race. Even they are somewhat surprised this 12-year Arkansas governor outlasted candidates like Giuliani, Thompson and now Romney, to be among the finalists for the GOP nomination.

Their sardonic segments about Huckabee on each of their shows are so popular that polls are now popping up in pursuit of the public’s opinion to the question, “Who made Huckabee?”

. . .

A warning to Conan, Colbert and Stewart

Incidentally, as far as the three late night comedians using my life at the center of their scornful and cynical mocking to justify their positions in creating the Huckaboom, I have something lastly to say.

I suppose if I believed all those “Chuck Norris Facts” still circulating on the Internet, I’d have to believe the one today that says, “There is no theory of evolution; just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.”

Ergo (as Conan has said), one can rightfully conclude, it is I (Chuck Norris) who actually made Conan, Colbert and Stewart – or at least still allow them to live.

And just like God might be saying to conservatives even now, I also say to them: Don’t make me come down there.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of Norris, I’d recommend that he get an editor the next time he posts a commentary. Nonetheless (and as could be said of my reaction to Huckabee’s candidacy, in general), it’s nice to see that he has a sense of humor … even though I disagree entirely with Gov. Huckabee’s politics and won’t vote for him.

Oh, and I have to go with the conclusion expressed by Entertainment Weekly‘s “Popwatch” and TV Envy: Stephen Colbert totally won that fight.

Ah man, I wish he had piped up earlier, then he could have just turned up at the end of the “fight” and owned Stephen, Jon and Conan, would have been hilarious!

I kinda liked the “chortle combat” line…. always a sucker for a pun.

    Hey – Colbert/Norris Pun-off?

And yes, Colbert sooooo pwned Stewart and Conan in that fight. I’m surprised they could show up the next day.

I agree with you Ms Interpreted. It’s great to see a politician with such a good sense of humor and Huckabee seems like a nice guy but I won’t be voting for him. I sometimes wonder if he is gaining anything politically by continuing to appear on the TCR. It gave him a bump when nobody knew who he was but I’m not sure if he is reaching an audience of folks who will actually go out and vote for him. Colbert’s audience is very politically aware and I imagine most of his fans tend to be more liberal than conservative. I know that I’m not going to be swayed into voting for him just because I enjoy seeing him on Stephen’s show (and I do enjoy his appearances very much). Just my humble opinion.

I do give Huckabee credit for campaigning hard and doing whatever he needs to do to get his name out there. This morning, he called into a local radio station I was listening to because the hosts were discussing who they would vote for in tomorrow’s Potomac Primary (VA, MD, DC).

You’ve gotta love a politician with a sense of humor — on those grounds alone, I respect him for that. Though, I suspect Huckabee’s strategy here is to appeal to a select group of voters that sometimes conservative Republicans typically don’t. But, One of the Heroes is right…Colbert (and Stewart) fans are usually pretty liberal, so he may be barking up the wrong tree. Though, if you take Tom Brokaw’s opinion (from his interview on ADS last week, that is) that some conservative Republican voters are looking outside their own party for a candidate they might actually vote for, then yes, his exposure is probably doing him some good. But, I give him credit for at least trying.

    @SazzrahUK
OMG! That would have been hysterical! Too bad Chuck’s a day late and a dollar short on this one.

I also have to agree that while Huckabee seems like a relatively decent man who obviously has a sense of humor, I don’t want him running the country. I do think his appearances on TCR have been to try and reach young voters and I doubt many of them take him very seriously.
