by Kevin Howell — Publishers Weekly, 2/5/2008

The Audio Publishers Association (APA) just announced the finalists for the 2007 Audie Awards that honors audiobook excellence in 30 categories.

Inspired By … The Bible Experience: Old Testament (Zondervan) was the audio production with the most nominations, gathering four in the categories of multi-voiced recording, inspirational/spiritual, achievement in production and package design. Last year, Zondervan’s Inspired By … The Bible Experience: New Testament won an Audies for inspirational/spiritual and as Best Audiobook of the Year.

Stephen Colbert’s I Am America (And So Can You!) (Simon & Schuster Audio) had the next-highest number of nominations, in three categories: humor, achievement in abridgement and multi-voiced recording.

I am waiting to check out Stephen’s audiobook from my local library and I have been in the queue for TWO MONTHS… I’m currently 18 out of 33 requests (and there are 3 copies!).

I would be annoyed and impatient — but I am enjoying the fact that so many folks in Nashville want to hear it.

Woo whoo! Congratulations to Stephen and everyone involved with putting the audiobook together (I believe Paul Dinello had a big hand in the audiobook production, according to the credits at the end of the last CD at least.). It is, truly, commuting therapy after very, very bad days at work. It’ll be killer to wait until May to find out who wins, though. Thanks for the update, Ms. I. I was wondering when the nominees would be announced.

Since this falls under the tag of “Who’s Honoring Stephen Now?” I want to mention that the February Mad magazine fold-in honors Stephen Colbert. It’s a very clever play on Bush vs Colbert (“joker who thankfully can’t run for president in 2008″), and references truthiness and other it-getter concepts. If someone has a scanner and can scan it, both unfolded and folded, I would bet that the fine folks at NFZ would appreciate it! I unfortunately don’t have a scanner.

Stephen’s gotta love that he’s going up against two versions of the Bible.
