What an odd thing … I find myself wishing I lived in New Jersey!
From the Independent:
Colbert to be special guest at Two River Theater gala
Entertainer and political pundit Stephen Colbert will make a special appearance as a guest at the Two River Theater’s annual fundraising event, “Lunatics & Lovers: A Two River Theater Celebration,” on Saturday, March 1.
Colbert, of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” will join a star-studded roster including Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Olympia Dukakis and Jackson Browne.
Colbert was recently voted Celebrity of the Year who had the biggest impact on pop culture in 2007 by The Associated Press (AP).
Limited reservations at $350 and $500 are available for the gala by calling (732) 345-1400, ext. 850. Guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the theater’s lobby, dinner on the Joan and Robert Rechnitz Theater stage catered by David Burke Fromagerie, live auctions and dancing into the night. Dress for the event is Red Carpet chic. – Compiled by Gloria Stravelli – Designed by Eileen Russell-Gerber
*grumbles expletives*
This place is practically in my back yard but $350 is a little hefty for my recently unemployed self. Grrrrr…

If it wasn’t $350 and‘Red Carpet chic’ (what is that?), I’d be tempted for a road trip. Ah well.

@ vigwig,
Yes, it really is! But the thing is, gala events like this, when you’re talking about a fundraiser for a theater? I think they’re fine. If people are willing to buy tickets at that price to support the arts, I can only think that’s a good thing. The arts are sorely underfunded and underappreciated in this country, and I think it’s fantastic that Stephen is so supportive.

Well, if Bon Jovi killed the 90′s MTV Chic, what will he do Red Carpet Chic?

I think only the punters/supporters are expected to dress in ‘Red Carpet’ chic.
The ‘special guests’ could wear bunny slippers, if they wanted to. :D

I should clarify my grumbling…
I saw the headline and was immediately psyched over the idea I could attend, until, that is, I saw the price tag and read what the event actually was. So, don’t mind my knee-jerk reaction. I was just excited over the idea of attending. But, Bruce and Jon do such wonderful charity work for NJ, and I’m glad to see Stephen will be participating as well.

@MsI
As a proud AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists) member for 20 years I fully support arts funding. People w /deep pockets should pony up and Stephen’s appearance will guarantee attendance. I wasn’t attacking Stephen at all, just making a joke vis a vis the show.

vigwig,
I hope I didn’t sound like I was criticizing you; it was meant as a generalization about gala events. I’m not wild about them when they’re things like media parties surrounding award shows or things like that; I kind of hate reading about them then, actually. But when people are trying to raise funds for good causes, and they just happen to choose to do so via more black-tie events, then I tend to be okay about them.
Sorry if it sounded like I was directing that at you.

@MsI , no worries, I just wanted to clarify that I wasn’t criticizing Stephen’s fund raising. :)

Well, I live close enough to go, but it’s a little pricey for me. I also don’t possess anything that could be described as “red carpet chic.” They’ll have to get by without me.
