Welcome to February, NoFactZone fans. We’ve got six more weeks of winter but hopefully only a few more days of the writers’ strike. The news media is buzzing with the possibility of successful negotiations, but we can’t start holding our breath yet. How does cautious optimism sound to you? In other news, Stephen’s call for WristStrong bracelets to go to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (for his ankle) didn’t work, as the Patriots – a team that Stephen begrudgingly supported, because they’re the Patriots – just lost the Superbowl. And we shall say no more about that.
We have contest winners! Five NoFactZone readers will win a copy and an audiobook of Ben Karlin’s ‘Things I’ve Learned From Women Who’ve Dumped Me.’

Writers’ Strike 2008 – Closing In On One Hundred Days:
- The New York Times talks to writers from ‘The Daily Show.’ Stay strong, guys, you’ll make it through this.
- The Internet! It’s too new! Viacom moves forward with its lawsuit against Google over copyrighted Youtube videos.
- If we’re getting strike-weary, I don’t know how the writers are doing it. What can the No Fact Zone do to keep making a difference?
- Operation Superstantial Truthiness: Photos4Writers2Flickr4Morale! Take a photo of yourself holding the Colbert fans sign and post it on our Flickr photo group.
- We’ve got a few photos already, and the widget is up on the main page. Cool!
- What? Stocks are dropping for media conglomerates now that they’re forced to show reruns? Who would’ve thought.
- Ratings are up for both ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report,’ though we strongly disagree that it’s because Jon and Stephen don’t need writers. (For the sake of the calcium in their bones, they need their writers!)
- Six Degrees: Striking ‘Daily Show’ writers collaborate on a New York Times live-blog editorial about Bush’s State of the Union speech. Hilarious!
- Cryptic strike news: things are looking good.
- UnitedHollywood.com keeps us grounded with some reality-check news about the current state of negotiations. Still, support from the Screen Actors Guild is good to see.
- Robert J. Eilsberg lets a big Hollywood secret out of the bag: writers are valuable. Invaluable, actually. Who would’ve thought?!
- A tale of two Oscar ceremonies: the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is making its contingency plans for this year’s awards.
- If the strike doesn’t end soon, some of the striking writers may lose their health insurance.
- Viewers are sick of repeats. This is news, how?
- And now Congress is starting to get sick of the repeats too, or at least the economic backlash of the strike. California Democrats step in to urge a resolution.
- Could this be hopeful news? Maybe! Various news sources say an end to the strike might be near.
- More news sources – some big-name newspapers included – are echoing the optimism. Got your fingers crossed?
Colbert Made Huckabee, O’Brien Made Colbert, Stewart Made O’Brien:
- Jon Stewart interviews Conan O’Brien on ‘The Jon Stewart Show.’ Are those… acid-washed jeans?
- Jon Stewart made Huckabee! If only the video would stay up online.
- NBC’s ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ blog responds to Jon and Stephen’s show of solidarity.
- Mediabistro fuels the crossover rumors with news that Stewart and Colbert may have been over at O’Brien’s studio. Exciting!
- A spoiler for Friday night’s ‘Late Night’ show, and a disturbing photo. I can’t wait to see how Jon and Stephen react to this one.

Mainstream Media:
- Professor Neil Shubin, guest on last week’s ‘Report,’ discusses his interview and how he prepared for the potential nailing.
- Follow-up on some earlier posts: Karl Rove won’t be speaking at Choate’s graduation, and a Cornell University professor supports Ron Seeber’s decision to appear on the ‘Colbert Report.’
- The new ‘Harvey Birdman’ video game does not feature Stephen Colbert’s voice as Myron Reducto and Phil Ken Sebben.
- Paste Magazine readers believe Stephen could shoulder the responsibility of humanity’s survival.
- Juice Analytics examines the ‘Colbert Bump’ and finds out that it’s real, even though there are a lot more factors involved than just appearing on the show.
- Who’s honoring Stephen new? The Producer’s Guild Awards (for live entertainment/competition)!
Multimedia Fun:
- Those three patterns should clash horribly, but somehow Stephen pulls off that suit and makes it look good. Eye Candy!
- Stephen Colbert, god of the forge. Eye Candy! (That’s twice in one week, you’re getting spoiled here)
Six Degrees of Stephen Colbert:
- Daily Show writer Sam Means, author of ‘A Practical Guide to Racism’ under the name of ‘Professor’ C.H. Dalton, breaks down the Democratic primaries from Dalton’s point of view.
- G. Terry Madonna, director of Franklin & Marshall College’s Center for Politics & Public Affairs, films an upcoming ‘Daily Show’ segment with Demetri Martin.
