Alternate Title: “Apparently, my boss is not an it-getter”
Alternate Title II: “Maybe she doesn’t catch me blogging as much as I thought”

My cubicle at work
Directly next to my boss’s cubicle at work
My boss: Have you eaten lunch yet? Aren’t you going to get something to eat?
Me: Well, I go to lunch at 1:30 now. I’ll go in a few minutes.
My boss: Why are you eating so late?
Me: I go into the break room and watch my show on my lunch break. They show a rerun at 1:30p.
My boss: What show is that?
Me: “The Colbert Report”
My boss: The what?
Me: “The Colbert Report”
My boss: What channel is it on?
Me: Comedy Central.
My boss: And who is on that?
Me: Stephen Colbert.
My boss: Who?
Me: Stephen Colbert. [grabs May 2007 GQ sitting on desk and hands to boss]

Me: Him. That’s Stephen Colbert.
My boss: Never heard of him.
[boss walks away]
Me: *facepalm*

OK so not a fan but, never even HEARD of him? Has he/she not read a newspaper or magazine in the last two years?!?

Some people truly exist in a popular culture hole.

My condolences on having to work under one so unenlightened.
I love it that you had Stephen’s issue of GQ at your desk during this exchange! The only thing better would be if you were able to pull Stephen himself into your cube a la Marshall McLuhan in Annie Hall.

I’ve had similar conversations with some friends. And family members. :(

LMFAO!!! *laughs in own head at appropriateness of *HEADDESK* Macro for DB’s story*
It’s sad that no one in my entire family watches or has any idea who Stephen is. I do have a growing list of co-workers (soon to be “former” co-workers) who line up in my office to discuss last night’s show every morning. I sincerely hope there’s at least *one* It-Getter at whatever new job I end up at.

Ya I know it’s hard to believe but a lot of people don’t know who he is. Not everyone has cable.

I loved this blog and I can totally imagine having a similar conversation with my boss. He is highly intelligent and has an ivy league education but he definitely knows nothing about popular culture or television.
I guess it’s safe to say that your boss doesn’t notice the blog posts you do from work.

Your boss was surely pulling your leg….right??
