Six Degrees: Interview with Jay Katsir (TCR Writer)

From Metro New York:

‘Colbert’ scribe weathers strike

INTERVIEW. Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” returned last night, though Stephen Colbert had to go on without his writers, who have been on strike since Nov. 7. Jay Katsir, a member of the “Report” writing staff since the show launched in 2005, talked to Metro about keeping busy during the strike, evil corporate weather machines and the generosity of Dr. Phil.

What have you been up to during the strike?

I have been getting a lot of support from people like Dr. Phil. He helped me today to not be “that girl.” I’d like to say I’ve gotten some culture, but I’m not sure if watching “I Am Legend” at 11:00 a.m. on a Wednesday counts.

You’ve been in the Writers Guild of America picket lines. What’s that like?

Trudging in a circle. It tends to be gathering in front of one of the major production companies in the city and making them feel guilty — except in front of Viacom. They always activate their weather machine when we picket in Times Square. I’ve truly learned that there is such a thing as a wintry mix.
