I’m sure “Stephen” would have something witty to say about this latest report, as it’s from The New York Times, but he’s still not talking because of the strike.
As you may recall, former Gov. Mike Huckabee was initially listed as a guest for an upcoming episode of The Colbert Report. And then he wasn’t. In between, he showed up with Leno, much to the disappointment of the very vocal WGA. Now the NY Times is reporting that he will appear on next week’s Report. I suppose time will tell; the guest lists for all of these talk shows (barring Dave’s and Craig’s) are likely to be highly volatile until the strike ends.
Late-Night Hosts (Heart) Huckabee

Mr. Huckabee will also appear on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” next week. Mr. Colbert will resume hosting new episodes of the show on Monday, but Comedy Central has not confirmed Mr. Huckabee’s booking.
UPDATE: Interesting. The linked article has been edited. It now reads:
Mr. Huckabee will also appear on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” via satellite next Wednesday, a network spokesman confirmed. Mr. Colbert will resume hosting new episodes of the show on Monday.
So once again, he’s avoiding a physical picket line . . .
Shepard Smith over on FNC also reported last night that Huckabee is suppose to be on Colbert next week

Via satellite? Talk about trying to work around technicalities, as in does it count if he appeared on the show, but wasn’t physically at the show? Details, details, details.

Thanks, Lisa, I just noticed that the NY Times edited its article after I posted. Yeah, it’s one of those technicalities that I’m betting will raise an eyebrow or two.

So will that give Huckabee a “virtual” Colbert bump?

I wonder if the now-surging candidate will be willing to reassert his offer of a Huckabee/Colbert ticket. I’m wondering too if, given Huckabee’s recent success, it’s not time for Stephen to tighten the satirical screws during a Huckabee appearance (apparition?) on TCR. It bothers me that Huckabee is given a pass so often by the press because they are disarmed by his geniality.
For example, I’d like to see Stephen slippery-slope test Huckabee’s ‘love the sinner, hate the sin’ line on homosexuality. When exactly do we start the stoning to death? Deep kissing? Frottage? Non-historical role-playing? Yams? [NB: ‘Stephen’ counts Aragorn and Batman as historical figures. And note to real Stephen: we *know* you took that centurion costume home]. I think it may be time to peel back the amiability a bit and look underneath the surface charm.

“And note to real Stephen: we *know* you took that centurion costume home].”
@ nousblet LMAO!
Huckabee scares me precisely because his political extremism is wrapped in a charming demeanor. It’s very dangerous IMO, esp. w/ a populace that takes its political in 30 second sound bites.

@vigwig: I dare you to ask about how Stephen classifies the costume (historical or non) and it’s present location next taping you attend.

@nousblet
How’s this? “Have you worn your centurion costume outside the studio? And if so where and when?”
I can imagine the following answers:
(BIG eyebrow raise) “yes, next question”
(smirk) “none of your business”
“For the South Carolina nominating committee”
;)

He’s going to be on Letterman, too.
