Anyone heading to the Sundance Film Festival this year?

LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) – The Sundance Film Festival on Thursday completed its lineup of world premiere and other feature films for 2008 highlighted by a closing night movie about classic rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

. . .

“CSNY, Deja Vu” plays on the festival’s final Friday night, and Gilmore promised more than simply concert footage of the band that rose to fame in the anti-Vietnam War era with hits such as “Teach Your Children” off their 1970 album, “Deja Vu.”

The movie is described as an examination of the band’s “connection to its audience in both political and musical terms” in the festival’s promotional material.

I probably wouldn’t have paid as much attention to that if The Hollywood Reporter hadn’t also posted about it, and its post noted a familiar face amongst the “cast” members (emphasis added):

CSNY DEJA VU, U.S.A. (Director: Bernard Shakey; Screenwriters: Neil Young, Mike Cerre) — The war in Iraq is the backdrop as the Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young “Freedom of Speech Tour” crisscrosses North America. Echoes of Vietnam-era anti-war sentiment abound as the band connects with today’s audiences. Cast: David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Mike Cerre, Stephen Colbert. World Premiere, Closing Night Film

Something to add to your list of things to see, I’d say.

I should also mention here that Michel Gondry’s new film, Be Kind, Rewind, is also set to premiere at Sundance. As our good friend Caitlin (of www.pauldinello.net) would no doubt like us to mention, that film features someone who looks an awful lot like a building manager named Tad playing the part of an attorney. The trailer looks pretty promising, too. Keep an eye out for it in 2008!

awwwww *wipes away a tear* You guys always keep me and my ever-promotion of all things Paul in mind. It’s so heartwarming :D

To CSNY Publicity: of all the great songs that CSNY recorded, please don’t associate the band with the song “Teach Your Children” while promoting a rock-band movie.

“Teach Your Children” merely reminds your intended audience of Guitar Mass. Thank you.

So I wonder if Stephen and Paul will be there? I was on the front row at the Comedy Festival in Aspen (which I still can’t find on the web). I had a blast at the festival with both Stephen and John Oliver there.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0
