I’ll have Zeitgeist for $1000, Alex

Speaking of game shows, I kind of miss watching the Chinese version of The Price is Right, but I REALLY miss watching the Chinese version of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. The prize money is really chintzy but anime-chic-dressed hostess was some other kind of hot altogether.

More money than the financing of Stephen’s presidential bid

I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one getting all giddy last night when Mr. Trebek introduced this category last night on Jeopardy:

Manilow!

He did do a bit of the angry voice, but you can imagine if the camera were pointed at Alex, he’d be shaking that fist. Now check out the $1000 answer:

$1000 answer

Yes, let us all fantasize about being ten Benjamins richer. I’m not going to post the accepted question (just scroll on the answer) because it may illicit some feelings of disgust from the purists who wish to uphold the sanctity of his moniker. To make matters worse, it was the OTHER pronunciation of his surname. (You know, the hard T.)

May I suggest a host exchange for April Fools Day?

Blasphemy. Seriously, Jeopardy! folks? The guy was running for President and you can’t freakin’ spell, or pronounce, his name correctly? I think my brain is on strike…

As soon as I heard “Steve COLE-burt,” my jaw actually dropped in disbelief. I mean, who calls it “The COLE-burt Report?”

Seriously. I would love to know which rock these folks crawled out from under to not even know how to pronounce it correctly — do these folks not even watch the news? And they’re writing Jeopardy questions?

And don’t even get me started on “Steve”… It seriously bothers me. I don’t know why.

TLE – where is Alex from, again???

    @ Lisa

To be fair, I’m pretty sure the writers wrote the question on Alex’s card as “Stephen Colbert.” The contestant said “Steve COLE-burt” and Alex accepted it. Per Jeopardy rules, if someone says “Jim” when a person’s full given name is “James”, it will be usually be accepted.

    @ Jennie

I do have a responsibility to uphold Canadian content. After all, one out of eight TCR viewers (and I will assume, NFZ readers) is a Canadian.

That, and Mr. Trebek ordered me to mention him at least once on NFZ…

…my bad. Jeopardy! question writers are forgiven. (Sorry, guys) I do hope, though, that Alex corrected him at the very least.

I think the ike-stray just makes me “punchy,” as that seems to be the term being thrown around these parts lately.

I’ve never been a big fan of the name Steve. However, I can totally forgive “Stephen”. And I’m totally cool if the last name is Carell.

Oh man, I’m crazing Even Stephven.
