A video from the moguls’ side of the dispute

Well, we’d hate to be considered one-sided in our coverage of the strike, so here’s a clip presenting the moguls’ side of the story:

Watch it here, if the above gives you problems.

It’s all about give and take. And we were willing to GIVE the writers the opportunity to TAKE their demand off the table, and they turned down that opportunity . . . They’re such divas, such prima donnas, that they really took umbrage when we double-crossed them. You know? Like we said, “You take DVDs — we’ll — you take DVDs off the table, take them all off the table, and then we’ll talk to you about internet rights — about getting money for internet.” So then they took DVDs off the table, and then we completely shafted them on that, and double-crossed them on that, and then they act all huffy about it! . . . They’re so imaginative, why can’t they just IMAGINE that they’re getting a few more cents off of DVDs and a few cents off of internet downloads?

. . .

At least TWO of my five homes could be in danger if this strike goes forward!

Of course! How could I not have seen how hard this must be FOR THE MOGULS?! I seriously think this may be my favorite new video about the strike.

    This is outrageous!
How can they do this to the writers? That one of them would go on record with these blatant insults of hard working creative people!
Were it not for the writers and other production crew, those greedy moguls would never have been able to afford their huge castles!
Their success has been built on the graves of the writing class here!
I am appalled at this guy! Shame!!!

Seriously, those media execs are just plain out greedy and power-obsessed. Reminds me of Deutsche Bahn…

Interviewer: “What do you say about writers that have families that they’re trying to support past just that one job? These residuals give them an opportunity to, you know, plan for the future.”

Mogul: “You know, ah, what about the shareholders? That’s about all I can say to them.”

Fictitious Mogul #2: “Some of these victimized shareholders probably don’t even have jobs. They rely solely on dividends paid on the contents of expertly-managed, well-balanced portfolios in order to meet their living and luxury expenses. And you want to put a fraction of this income in jeopardy? What do you think will happen to the shareholders’ families? Or didn’t you realize shareholders have families?”

    “Gaulle.”

So funny, so true. I almost think I should feel sorry for the execs, thinking of the satirical power of the folks they’re inflaming. ALmost.

*LMAO!* That was luvly. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear I was watching TDS for a second there…

The execs may have the PR advantage right now (owning all the MSM, blacking out coverage of the strike on local news), but all the satirists are on the strikers’ side, and inevitably the “word” will get out. Ohh, it’s never wise to tick off a writer… =:-o

so was the guy on the bike ‘really’ an actor?

    lol

I was all ready to get mad at this guy before I read the excerpt.

The guy on the bike is great.

There’s another hilarious bideo on youtube, called “Strike You!” And by hilarious I mean sad and funny.

There are a lot of bad words in it. Which is cool.

I don’t think it will hurt the TV moguls ONE BIT to HELP the WRITERS!!!!! Moguls are living the high life and flying private jets while the writers (who are really the backbone of the industry) are being treated like SCUM OF THE EARTH!!!! I’m sure he could give up one of his luxurouse FIVE homes to help the writers keep the ONE home they have!!!!!

  12. Tonks says:

    aaahahaahaha

“Why can’t they just IMAGINE they have a few more cents…?”

this is gold. it just shows how dumb this whole thing is. they should just give the writers what they want.

I just love the fact that I knew it was Frank Conniff right from the start, the second he opened his mouth. For those that don’t know, Frank was on Mystery Science Theater 3000 as ‘TV’s Frank’ for just about forever. This video made my day.

I knew I knew him from somewhere, but I couldn’t place him until the credits.
