As you no doubt have noticed, No Fact Zone has been dominated by strike-related news and commentary recently. Speaking just for myself, it’s been encouraging to note the responses to the posts about the contract negotiations, even if the news itself has been disheartening.
Given that I’ve seen a lot of comments in recent days asking “what do Jon and Stephen think” or “what will happen if”, etc., I thought I should remind people that this site is not affiliated with Comedy Central, nor do we have insider access to what the writers/staff/host(s) are up to. Again, speaking just for myself, I want to make it clear that what I post is either pulled directly from another public source (with the proper attribution, whenever possible,) or is purely my own opinion. As a result, I can’t tell you what Stephen and Jon are thinking, or what the staff is planning, or how the writers are holding up, unless these individuals make an on-the-record comment.
Jon and Stephen will do what they will do, when they feel it’s time. We, as fans, can’t make them issue statements. But speaking as a contributor to this site, please also understand that I’m not hiding anything; if one of them has released a statement, it will be posted; scout’s honor (even if I was never a Girl Scout). Until then, please be patient, and know that I understand and will try to satisfy your desire for updates to the best of my ability.
Thanks for reading!
As fans of No Fact Zone, I think we all understand your position and sort of dilemma about being caught in the middle on this. I hope, though, that our commentary and banter about certain issues (for the most part) is seen as pure conjecture, nothing more. I’m sure none of us want to undermine the integrity of your site, as it seems to be the only reliable source of information about the strike at hand. However, it also seems to serve as the only outlet for our anger, frustration, and despair.

Lisa,
The post wasn’t meant as a censure. It’s gratifying that people are reading, and I like it when you all comment, too; it makes me feel like the time I’ve spent on the posts hasn’t been wasted (no small consideration when you consider that, for every post I actually add to the site, I’ve probably read five or more articles looking for noteworthy information). But I don’t want people to lose sight of the fact that I’m just a fan with a laptop and a desire to know what’s going on; I don’t have access to any “official” sources, and I don’t want people to feel misled if anything posted here turns out to be off the mark.
I contribute to this site because I enjoy it; it’s a labor of love. I’m doing it because I like sharing things I find and I appreciate that people seem to enjoy reading it. But that’s the point, I like sharing things, so I’m not trying to hide anything. I’ve seen several comments of the “have you seen anything about __?” nature, and I wanted to note that the answer is probably “no”, otherwise it would have been posted. I know we’re anxious for more news; I am, anyway, which is why I spend so much time looking for it. But I don’t want to burn out, either, and I know I’ll end up being frustrated if I feel like people are always asking for more than what I’m already contributing.
I love getting tips, I love feedback, I just wanted to make my request for your patience BEFORE I started feeling burned out by the blogging workload. And again, this is just speaking for myself, not the site in general.
So no hard feelings, just, you know, a request for people’s patience and understanding. Hope we’re cool.

@Ms Interpreted
(My apologies for rambling all over your blog…my curse as a writer has always been my long-windedness…)
I didn’t mean for my last comment to come off as a reflection of frustration or negative reaction to your post — my most sincere and humble apologies if that’s how it appeared, as it was hardly my intention. I know that trying to shy away from unsupported statements is in the site’s best interest — it’s the reason No Fact Zone is regarded as a source of some of the most credible information out there by the Colbert Nation. My main point was that I think less frequent visitors to the site, who may read a snippet of our comments and opinions here and there, will understand that we may just be discussing the topic at hand or blowing off some steam, and throwing in our 2 cents, be they factual or otherwise. But, I understand your concern over folks thinking that the contrary is true.
I’m going to go out on a limb (and speak on behalf of other posters and commenters) and say that our, “Geeze, I haven’t heard about x, y, and z…what’s up with that?” is more of a sense of disbelief that particular pieces of news or information has not yet been brought out to the general public; it’s hardly intended to be frustration directed towards you or anyone else at No Fact Zone, over the fact that no one’s yet posted it. Because we ALL know that it will…
We know how hard you guys work to keep the site as up-to-date as possible, with as much new information as humanly possible. And we also know that if any statements are issued or important news brought to light that this site will be the first to post it. We know you always have the most recent and relevant information out there…which is why we are all here, day in and day out. Believe me, Google doesn’t hold a candle to the factoids I find here on a daily (and hourly) basis.
So, kudos to you and to all of the contributors to the site for making everything that it is. Keep up the hard work — we all appreciate your dedication in every way. Don’t burn out either, though! Our writers will eventually come back to us…and when they do, I know they’ll be celebrations abounding here and everywhere (most especially, in my own living room, for sure!). So, we’ll need you then to get the party started!

I completely agree w/ Lisa, wondering aloud about something is not at all to be construed as a complaint against this wonderful site which is more on top of all things Colbert related than anything else on the web.

I third Lisa’s statement. My curiousness about what is and isn’t going on is certainly no reflection on the fine work
being done here at NFZ. It is what it is and nothing more than that. I, among many, am extremely grateful that you all
continue plugging away, in many ways leading The Nation at a time that is extremely bleak and disheartening. Be assured
that we love you all! :)

I, on the other hand, insist that you go to Colbert’s home, knock on the door and ask him how he’s holding up, what is the dealio, and what did he have for dinner.
I think you should also pay a visit to Jon Stewart, once you have obtained his address from Colbert and borrowed Colbert’s car to get there.
And I would like to see some pictures. Moving pictures would be especially nice.

I check in here regularly to see what’s going on with Stephen, the Report, related fan stuff, and, now, the strike. I appreciate the great job you do with all of it.
As for the strike, I’m interested in seeing how the changes in communication over the last 20 years since the last strike will affect things. One would think (and hope) that the greater opportunities for writers and fans to make themselvs heard would result in a shift of power in their favor.
Keep up the good work!
