What I find interesting and thought-provoking here is witnessing the change that can take place in the perspective and attitude of a comedian when they are truly exposed to the stark greed that is ever-present in even our own political arena and further what a sheer force of awakened determination can bluntly be created where once there had been only light-hearted humor? It is from such moments as these, when the laughter of brilliance breaks, that great and positive changes can ensue. For the sake of our country's global future, just maybe what we really need is an objective, positive and determined Stephen Colbert as president. How many would argue that such a man could possibly do less than break-even, if he actually won the presidency, when compared with his three predecessors?

Stephen should have every right to run. It's so stupid how they turned him down just coz they think he's not "serious". How do they know that when they don't know the guy himself to know what exactly is his motive and whatnot. So the guy has great sense of humor, doesn't mean he shouldn't have the right to run. America IS ready, run Stephen Colbert!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

If for no other reason then to fail, I think it would be important to at least make the attempt honestly. I think this joke back-fired a little on the producers and Stephen himself about running for president.

Call me crazy, but a famous celebrity who makes a point to promote himself like he's the end all of knowledge discovering that people actually believe him would be a little daunting for the guy. Going from reporter to television personality, then from television personality to president would be a huge step in the old self-image.

Don't be afraid of winning!! Go with it and if you do happen to take presidency, do the best job you can!!

The past couple of years of trashing the current government would need to be taken from the other side for a while of course. That would be a bit humbling. To anyone in that position...not too many people could claim to be in that position. I think it's awesome!

At the same time I do miss the Arnold movies now that he's governor, so it would kind of suck that we wouldn't have Colbert running his show to give us a nice shake down of reality. Colbert rules!

What are the Democrat candidates so worried about? If they thought Steven was a joke, then why oppose him getting on the ticket.

Since when do the other candidates and the election boards get to determine who we vote for? I was pretty sure that in America WE THE PEOPLE voted who got to be President. He qualified and met all the criteria, HE SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON.

Where do they get off making the decision that "Well if he runs, it will take votes away from other candidates" What's the difference between this and if the whole election process changed and was decided "why have elections with two people? One of them will take votes from the other!!!" That's our choice, not theirs.

I was ready for a big political show down when it came to light that the majority vote means nothing. I would love nothing more than to see Stephen push this issue in court. Stephen has the opportunity to level the playing field and put some equality in the political process.
If a man who can get a bridge named after him in Hungry cannot get on the ballot for president in one bloody state what hope does that leave any of the rest of us. I think the last 8 years have shown us who and what our choices will be for president. If someone meets all the requirements and is still not allowed on the ballot... then our votes really aren't worth much. If a select few get to pick who our choices are... then we don't really have choices.
The political system as a whole has not been held accountable for their actions or sometimes more damning their inactions. I for one would LOVE to see Mr. Colbert take a stand, not just for his Colbert Nation, but for the nation as a whole.

From CNN:
