Stephen Colbert Day ColumbiaStephen Colbert Receives Key To City of Columbia

(Columbia) – Mayor Bob Coble proclaimed today “Stephen Colbert Day” in the City of Columbia.

Mayor Coble presented the South Carolina native with a key to the city and named Colbert “South Carolina’s favorite son.”

The host of “The Colbert Report”, which airs on Comedy Central, recently announced that he would be running for President in 2008 but only in South Carolina. His plan is to run on both the Republican and Democratic ticket.

Colbert was honored to recieve the key to the city and says he “loves South Carolina, almost as much as South Carolina loves” him.

Colbert also says that if he is elected as President, he promises not only to crush the state of Georgia, but also Tennessee. His promised comes on the heels of Carolina’s 27-24 loss to the Volunteers.

His final words of wisdom Sunday morning made the crowd cheer. “Go Cocks!”

Heeee! That certainly does appear to be a real stump speech. And the HuffPo shout out was hilarious. The crowd sounded great, too!

    Off topic:

I’m listening to NPR’s On The Media. They’re doing a piece on the Colbert presidency bid.

Nothing too new so far. But I gotta love the NPR/Colbert mutual love.

I can’t seem to get the video to work … and then when I click on the link to view it with an outside player, a Toyota commercial pops up…weird.

It seems to be working fine for me, Shruti. If you go through the story link and try to jump to the video from there, does it work any better?

  10. Shruti says:

Nope, it’s not working. I’m on a Mac, but I do have flip4mac so I don’t see why it shouldn’t work.

Oh, weird … I get a 404 in the bottom bar of the video.

  13. Thanks for the back-up link! For some reason the original video wasn’t working for me … I think it might’ve had something to do with my Firefox ad-blocker.
