“1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert” really is 1,000,000 strong
By
MsInterpreted posted yesterday about the strain placed on FaceBook servers by the group 1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert. The original goal set by the groups founder was to reach 1,000,000 members in 10 days. Well, today, October 26, 2007 as of 5:51 AM (EST) that goal was reached – less than 10 days since its founding.

Haha, I tried to stay up to see it reach a million, but I gave up around 4 am because I realized that the join rate had substantially decreased and that it would probably be a couple more hours.
Also: you have an unwarranted apostrophe in the “its founding.” Uh, just being a pedantic grammar nazi as always.

I know he can handle it but I wonder if the real Stephen is not getting just a little bit alarmed by what he has unleased.

Its original goal was actually to reach it within a week, and it was changed later. But damn… it grew fast.

@Shruti – I tried to stay up for it too, but the lure of sleep overpowered my desire to refresh the page. Ah well. Thanks for posting, Jennie!
You know, I wonder if Stephen is going to turn this massive Nation towards doing a get-out-and-vote thing. He’s going to have to direct the juggernaut somehow if he’s not going to run the entire election race.

@Shruti – yea, it got relatively slow there – it was mid-morning here so I had an easier time watching. Kinaesthesia was on the watch before me… it’s ’round the clock coverage here at NFZ.
As for the extra “‘”… thanks for catching that – they drive me crazy when they show up in pronouns like that!
@ Sylak – from what I saw of the site and articles, it was 1 million in 10 days and, according to the founder “I realized how insane my first goal was, so I changed it to this. then changed to …Fastest Growing Facebook group to 500,000 in the history of Facebook!”
I didn’t see the group the first few days so I don’t know if it was 7 days when it first started.

I was there when it clocked over 1,000,000… In fact, to support my loser-dom, there’s a group that was founded called “I Was There When The 1,000,000 For Colbert Hit A Million”, and it was closed when it actually happened… I’m one of 223 members…

@TraceyUK – I just sent a message requesting to join… the only evidence I have is the screen cap, so I hope I can get into this exclusive club!
