ByDoraemon_0676 was kind enough to send us a scan of an article that she found this week, from a Canadian magazine called Maclean’s in their October 22nd issue:

Hmm, that’s a strange argument to make.
I don’t think that building story lines or creating a character necessarily automatically make something sitcomish.
But I mean, I think it is true that as the show has progressed we’ve seen a lot more random character stuff than hard satire.
“If mayors, senators and journalists ever stop participating, The Colbert Report might have to downplay the story elements and go back to pure satire.”
No, that’s not true. His character could pick up on anything small and turn it into a huge deal – it’s not just politicians and journalists that create the story element of the show; in fact, I’d say it’s the opposite and that they foster the satirical element.
Anyway, thanks for posting this!

I’m not sure I agree with the article, the point of formula 401 for instance is to make fun of O’Rielly for being such a sellout with all his merch. I don’t think it was a random sitcom thing to be silly. I’m always impressed with the amount of planing that goes into the bits. But I can see since the paper’s from Canada, they may not see the everyday satire. I know I wouldn’t get stuff like that about Canadian politics and journalism since I’m in the US.
