Cell phones #2, Atlanta 2005 44 x 90″
Chris Jordan is a photographer most famous for photographing pictures of evidence of our culture’s penchant for mass consumption. It is being reported on the (Notes on) Politics, Theory & Photography blog that Chris Jordan will be on ‘The Colbert Report’ this evening.
AND on his home page, under Press, it has him listed as appearing on the show on the 11th and 12th of this month. As far as we can tell, the 12th is going to be a rerun, so maybe it’s just on the 11th? Or maybe tonight? It’s hard to say. But it looks like he could be on the show this week.
Thanks to MsInterpreted for the tip!
That’s a really awesome picture.

I’d never heard of this guy until seeing him on a recent Bill Moyers Journal. It was cool to see his transition from someone who takes photos of found color studies to someone who plots highly arranged photoshopographic “evidence of our culture’s pension for mass consumption.”
I think you can still watch the BMJ report here:

Thanks so much for the link to that wonderful piece, C. His work is astounding.
The site also has a video on his 2005 photographic series done in New Orleans, “In Katrina’s Wake”:

…just saw the Chris Jordan section on Stephen’s Thur.11.2007 show … this is how we as a society are going to “GET IT” about our pure unconscious absorption of resources in this current world… thank you Chris for these beautiful photo – metaphors. Can you believe it 426,000 cell phones in a day ?!!! …and 106,000 pop / beer cans every 30 seconds, every day… WOW

Looking forward to the show. BTW it’s “penchant” for consumption. :)
