Author John Manrique accepts Stephen’s book release challenge
ByFirst-time novelist John Manrique has stepped up to the plate and answered Stephen’s challenge with one of his own. By day, he’s involved in real estate, but by night he’s brazenly boasting that his book will outsell ‘I Am America (And So Can You!)‘ on October 9th. We’ll see!
NewswireToday – /newswire/ – Palm Beach Gardens, FL, United States, 10/04/2007 - Following last night’s brazen challenge by Comedy Central talk show host Stephen Colbert, “Who has the balls to release their book on the same day as mine?”, Ocean Raton author John Manrique responds, “My book can kick your book’s a*s!”.
Ocean Raton author John Manrique issued this statement:
“Mr. Stephen Colbert, I serve public notice in response to the challenge issued on your so-called television program last night regarding the release of ‘I Am America (And So Can You).’ Since Paul Krugman is too much of a labia majora to battle you head-to-head on the bookshelves, then I willingly step into the fray. If it is a duel you seek on October 9, sir, then one ye shall have. Our plumes the pistols – old school Hamilton v Burr (I get to be Hamilton since it would be really cool to say, ‘I smite you, Burr in my side’ …though I’ve got to figure out how to avoid the whole dying thing this time out).“Moreover, since my book ‘Ocean Raton’ was just recently released, I ask my loyal readers (Mom, Dad, friends and family) to immediately put down their copies, and go out on October 9, 2007 and purchase anew so the battlefield is level (see what I ask, Colbert, just for the chance to throwdown with you medieval-style). Yes, momentum like mine is not easily harnessed — at last tally Amazon.com ranked Ocean Raton’s grandness at 116,453 …you sit a measly “6” on their Richter Scale — cower in awe at how much larger I am. I have no doubt, though, that your diabolical marketing machine of lackeys, homing pigeons, and telepathic ferrets, will work to serve their master and spread your plague. Nation, be strong!
“So what say you, Colbert? Do you make idle threats or author-on-author war?”
As of this release, Manrique has yet to receive acknowledgment from the Colbert camp. “Apparently Stephen hides behind an electronic security blanket at Comedy Central. Publicly issuing my acceptance of his challenge was the only way I might stir him from his perch on high.”
A response center has been established on OceanRaton.com for Colbert or one of his assigned minions to register their approval of Mr. Manrique’s acceptance of Mr. Colbert’s challenge.
Too bad his book was published on September 5th. You, sir, are ineligible for Stephen’s rage!
(Thanks Nate!)

That guy sounds like an ass, and his book isn’t being released on the same day–the requirements for Stephen’s challenge.

Nate, my friend, such is my willingness to engage Mr. Colbert on the field of literary battle that I am willing to re-release my book “Ocean Raton.” Hero to the core, baby!!
But alas, it’s been over 24 hours since I accepted Stephen’s challenge and not a word Camp Thuthiness. In this classic battle of David v Goliath, appears Goliath doesn’t have the kiwis to enter the cave.
I’m waiting, Colbert … I’m waiting.
