Stephen Colbert’s ‘I Am America (And So Can You!)’ hits the road
By![]()
Whoo hoo!! Another stop on the I Am America (And So Can You!) tour has just been scheduled!!
And this time, it’s in the Nation’s Capitol!! Yay!!
(If you don’t think I’m excited about this, just count the exclamation points!)
Fri. Oct 19, 7:00pm
The Smithsonian Associates present
Stephen Colbert
“Truthiness,” Justice, and the American WayStephen Colbert keeps a straight face on The Colbert Report. Keeping his facts straight is a whole other thing, however.
The host of the Comedy Central show coined the word “truthiness,” for example. It means information that Colbert wishes were true. Not that he’s making a point about newscasters.
“My friends tell me that Colbert’s mimicry of the narcissistic, preening, puffed-up personalities who inhabit TV news these days is spot on,” NBC news anchor Brian Williams wrote in Time last year. “Personally, I don’t see it.”
There’s no doubt about this faux news pundit’s popularity. The show has been nominated for Emmy Awards and other media-industry honors, and Colbert is the first TV personality to have had a new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor named for him: “Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream.”
This evening, Colbert keeps it real (we think) as he discusses his new book, I Am America (And So Can You!).
There is a book signing after the program.
There’s still time to order, if you haven’t done it yet. You know you want to!!
EDITED TO ADD: Fabulous book signing! I posted a review here, for anyone who’s interested.

…also, my friend from high school (uh, I’m just a college freshman now) goes to GWU. I’m so envious right now.

Pete (and Shruti), I haven’t heard of any plans to expand the live appearances beyond the East coast yet, but you can be sure we’ll post anything if we hear any differently.
Considering the man’s already insane schedule, it would be hard to imagine that he’d do too many far-flung appearances, but you never can tell. For your sakes, I hope he does schedule more events outside of the NY area. For the sake of his family’s patience and his own mental health, I have to admit that I feel almost guilty for being so excited about this D.C. addition.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment, i. :(
The only thing I can recommend — and I’m not sure you’ll have any luck, frankly — is to keep your eyes on the website for the Lisner Auditorium and/or give them a call. I know that they sometimes re-release tickets as the event date nears. (I think it has something to do with holding them for students to purchase; it there are extras, they’ll sometimes release those to the public at a later date.)
Keep checking Colbert forums and messageboards, too; people do occasionally offer up tickets, if their plans change. Again, I don’t know how successful this will prove, but I wish you luck.
