We’ve got two contests coming down the line this week, so we’ll be having lots of contest fun this week!
I’m sure my regular readers have heard about our sister site, Colbert University. Colbert University is a wonderful resource, chock full of every bit of “Colbert Report” trivia and archived story information that you can imagine.
The only problem is that Google is having a hard time finding our page, because our Pagerank isn’t very high. To gain page rank, we need lots and lots of people linking to the site. And to do that, we need the help of our many readers who have blogs and web sites who can link to us so that our Google Pagerank goes up and more people can find our site.
This contest is a little different from the others as you actually have to do a little work before you enter. But it’s worth it – you’re going to get a fantastic prize, a chance to win one of the much talked about Blads (preview excerpts) from “I Am America (And So Can You!)”
We’re giving away three blads in this contest (thanks to CU Senior Communications Specialist and Reference Librarian WordsWithGrace who grabbed a few when she was at the BEA a couple of months ago).
AND DON’T FORGET, if you want to preorder either the Book or Audiobook of IAA(ASCY!), we’d sure appreciate it if you’d use the link on this page or the links provided in Ye Olde Colbert Shoppe. Thanks a bundle!

This contest is going to require a little work on your end. But it’s worth it, I promise! Follow these steps to enter the contest.
- 1) Link to Colbert University (http://colbertuniversity.nofactzone.net) on your blog or web site. This includes LJ blogs, but does not include message board links.
For each of these types of links, you can get different amount of entries into the contest:
So, for example, if you were to write a review of our site in your blog, and then put a link to our blog in your blogroll, that would mean that you would get five entries – Three for the review, plus two for the blogroll link. If you were to simply write a blog entry saying “I want to enter this contest so here’s a link: Colbert University“, that would get you one entry into the contest.
Please note:
- a) I’d prefer it to be an established blog. Creating new blogs simply to put in a link is a practice called “Splogging“, or spam blogging. The links will hurt, not help, our Google Pagerank. So please, established blogs are best.
b) MySpace links do not help Pagerank, nor do Facebook I believe. So no, social sites like these don’t count, unfortunately.
2.) Send an e-mail with your mailing address included, and the URL’s to your Colbert University links in your blog, to:
LinkToCU (at @) nofactzone.net
(Seriously, I’m not kidding, PUT YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IN THE E-MAIL. If I don’t have your address in your e-mail, I’m drawing a different name. How can I mail you your prize if you don’t give me a place to send it? In past contests, I’ve had to draw multiple times to find people who actually sent me their addresses. I want to give you cool, free stuff, I really really do. So make it easy for me. Thank you.)
One Entry Per E-mail Address – You do not need to submit multiple times for multiple links. If you link on multiple sites, simply put the URL’s into one e-mail. I’ll be doing the tabulation for this contest rather manually, so don’t worry, you won’t fall through the cracks.
PRIZES:
Three winners will be selected, and each winner will receive one of the prize listed below. Three prizes, three winners.
(Entries are accepted from August 20, 2007 to September 3, 2007, with the drawing held at the end of the day on Monday, September 3, 2007)

To answer your questions:
1) I’d prefer it to be an established blog. Creating a dozen new blogs simply to put in a link is a practice called “Splogging“, or spam blogging. The links will hurt, not help, our Google Pagerank. So please, established blogs are best.
2) MySpace links do not help Pagerank, nor do Facebook I believe. So no, these don’t count, unfortunately.
3) If you’ve got multiple valid, established blogs or sites to post links, you can get as many entries as you can create links and/or reviews.
