‘Colbert Report’ guest Andrew Keen waxes pathetically

By DB on August 20th, 2007 ·

Thursday’s guest, Andrew Keen, was pwn3d all over the place by Stephen Colbert when he did his best to call bloggers culture thieves who were diluting intelligence. It was brutal, and ugly.

And even Andrew Keen will admit to it. From his blog, which I assume is corporately sponsored lest it be worthless and written by monkeys:

Am I Nazi?
Monday, 20 August 2007

And so I got Truthified by Colbert. First of all, the Truthificator got me to confess publicly, in front of Colbert-nation, that I’m an elitist. Then he got me to acknowledge that the Internets (sic) is worse than the Nazis.

But Colbert didn’t take the next logical step that would have revealed my real identity. The grand Truthpoobah failed to ask me the all-important question, the one that would have the most appalling truth about me. If I’m an elitist and the Internets (sic) is worse than the Nazis, then doesn’t that make me a full-blown National Socialist — maybe a senior level SS officer or even a member of the Fuhrer’s inner circle, an anti digital Goebbels or Himmler?

So am I really a Nazi?

I’m not saying — not here, not on a sad little blog (even if it’s my own sad little blog). But if Colbert has me onto his show again, I’ll tell him. He can ask me anything; I’ll confess all to the Truthmonster.

What a pathetically ingratiating way to worm another invitation onto the Colbert Report, eh?

And in such poor taste.

I totally stole his culture just then, did you see that? HA!

Thanks to Jennie for the tip!

LOL!!

But yes, indeed, he did very poorly at presenting whatever the heck his argument was supposed to be. (Money makes an artist? What?)

Haha totally stole his culture just then, did you see that? HA!. Nice one!

This was a very funny interview. I found Keen’s argument that we need to preserve high Culture from bloggers and other insignificant beings to be quite out of place. To come on the Colbert Report, a program largely anti-status quo, anti-Culture, very subversive and very democratic is a little hypocritical. I mean surely he knows who watches the Colbert Report and surely he knows that Colbert is a pop culture figure (who I think is going to be an icon, if not already an icon), so he really had no business going to the Colbert Report talking about preserving Elitism and high Culture. He had it coming. I love how Colbert just pretty much revealed what Keen was all about in like two minutes.

@ Lisa:
Well said! Keen has as much a place on TCR as a fart does in an elevator…

It was challenging not being completely distracted from the interview by Keen’s supreme state of pratness. Ah, but it was sublime fun watching Stephen topple Keen so delightfully and completely from his Mr. FancyPants pedestal. >;-p

As Mr. Sebben might say (were he not dead):
Ha-HAH! Poser.

Wow that guy was a piece of s**t. When I was watching The Colbert Report I thought he was joking! Basically he said that stupid average people (99.99% of the world) shouldn’t be able to express there thoughts publicly because it takes attention away from important people like him… Why don’t we all go back to the middle ages while we are at it. Get a life Keen.

I think Keen is brilliant. He brings the aspect of America’s ugly anti-intellectual culture to a fore – just look at the comments above. Keen is f***ing hilarious, similar to what Lander is doing with the Stuff White People Like Blog. He’s nailing the American-libertarian-idealists-of-the-Internet against the wall. Dont take the guy all too seriously. He’s made himself consciously into the guy for many Americans to ‘love to hate’. And he knows this. I find it just so f***ing hilarious people’s response to Keen – he knows Americans very, very well.
