First, from the Comedy Central Press release:
NEW YORK, August 17, 2007 — Join “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” for “Operation Silent Thunder: The Daily Show in Iraq,” a week of special reports filed from Iraq. Yes, actual Iraq, not greenscreen Iraq. “Daily Show” Senior War Correspondent Rob Riggle will provide in-depth coverage and insights from the front lines throughout the country where he was embedded with the troops and learned just how hot 120° really feels.
And from Obama’s MyFace page:
Join Barack at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Barack is scheduled to be a guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Wednesday, August 22nd.
You and a friend could receive free tickets and travel to New York to be a part of the studio audience. All you need to do is use the form to the right to invite your friends, family, and colleagues to join our movement and share their story.
We’ll choose an interesting story from those we receive, and send a new supporter to attend the taping. They’ll get a ticket to the show along with the person who invited them — you!
[h/t to Splendiferous_Zeppelin and Georganne Ross for the Obama link!]
[Edit: Hero Cathy commented that Paul Sheer has a couple of photos of the USO tour he and Riggle are on up on his blog.]
So TDS is going to have Obama on the same day as TCR have the Branson interview, big night for Comedy Central

I don’t know how I feel about Riggle actually being in Iraq. It feels too heavy…or something…What happened to the correspondent bits being fun, satirical farce? I don’t know, maybe I’m way off base, but his just feels wrong…like TDS is becoming too serious/important for its own good *hides from rock throwing fans* I love TDS, I really do, but I’m sketchy about this.

@Haidekat – From reading the press release, it sounds like Riggle was in Iraq on a USO entertainment mission. I gather he just took the opportunity to do some pieces while he was there.
I understand your feelings – I think it’s an iffy idea, but knowing that Rob was over there to entertain the troops first and foremost makes me feel better about it.

In reference to Rob Riggle’s trip to Iraq: Rob is there with Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel, they did a show in Kuwait as part of the USO tour. Paul has some pictures up on his website and there are a couple of Rob.
