“My work with turtles, Jon.”

Months ago, I read a TWoP Colbert Report post alluding to a taped “toss” between Jon and Stephen, wherein the boys discussed Stephen’s getting an award for conservation from Tom Brokaw. I’ve been looking for that video ever since, but it wasn’t until today that WordsWithGrace dropped it into my lap (thank you!).

From Conservation International‘s report on its “10th Annual New York Dinner“:

A memorable portion of the evening was a video featuring Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central. The pair’s discussion of Colbert’s involvement with The Great Turtle Race left the crowd in stitches.

Stephen also thanked Tom and Meredith Brokaw for inviting him to be involved with CI’s 10th annual New York dinner. Meredith, a longtime CI supporter and board member, took the stage at the end of the program to remind guests how important their support is to CI and to invite them to enjoy a glass of champagne in celebration of ten years of successful dinners.

Hey look, that’s my name… I did wonder where that little surge in traffic came from…

I was there at TDS when they filmed this (with Allisa who posted the report at TWoP you linked, in fact – small world). The funniest part for me though wasn’t taped. That night they taped the intro to The Global Edition. As Jon was going to his position, and the guys were setting lights and cameras etc, Jon launched into this rambling Brokaw impression for a minute or two. It was right on the money, totally hilarious and all off the top of his head :D
