In the Beginning, There Were Wørds.

On July 16, 2006, at 14:13 CDT, a lone blogger grabbed a Dr. Pepper, went online, and posted these simple yet prophetic words:

Welcome Post
by DB — published on July 16, 2006

Hello, and welcome to NoFactZone.Net! I plan on updating the content on this throughout the day, so be patient. Once I’m done, this will be one of the best Stephen Colbert fan sites on the web!

Ok, after an hour of fun in Photoshop, I’m happy with the header. Now, I just have to figure out how to add links.

This small voice, traveling solo in the Wide Wilderness of Webbing, could have gone the way of so many aspiring messages: wandering aimlessly in the myriad of tubes comprising the internets, just another entry in an NSA database.

Yet, like Alexander Graham Bell shouting “Mr. Watson, come here” over the phone; like Thomas Edison laying down his track of “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on a tin cylinder; like Neil Armstrong performing “Small Step for Man” on a soundstage in Arizona—DB’s publishing these words on the nascent fan site was destined to be a historic act.

Yes—content was updated, links were added, and the header changed at least three times that we can count. From its humble beginnings, as predicted, NoFactZone.net became the best Stephen Colbert fan site on the web. Really, it’s true. We checked.

Though remaining headquartered in President Bush’s home state of Texas, DB amassed a ragtag group of journalists/bloggers/uberfans of Stephen Colbert from around the nation, well, San Francisco, and from far-flung foreign lands such as Canada, Italy, and the District of Columbia. They were molded into a crack team of correspondents united by one thing—the sheer love of All Things Colbert.

Today is the one-year anniversary of NoFactZone.net. We, the minions at NFZ, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our leader and webmaster, DB, for creating and maintaining this wonderful site and to thank her for letting us play here. Here we publicly renew our commitment to the one true goal of the site:

Promoting Stephen Colbert, all grace and glory to his name, peace be upon him.

Happy Anniversary, NoFactZone!

Ms Interpreted (Senior Washington Correspondent)
The Lake Effect (Senior Canadian Correspondent)
WordsWithGrace (Senior West Coast Correspondent)
Kinaesthesia (Senior Medical Correspondent)

P.S. Because it’s your favorite picture, DB…

Happy anniversary to all of you at NFZ! May it be the first of many. DB, your vision in starting the site and assembling such a great staff, as well as the many hours of hard work and obsession dedication you’ve all put into it, have made it what it is today. I’m proud to be part of this community. My family, friends and co-workers are also happy that you’re here so that I have someplace else to talk about the wonder that is Stephen Colbert.

@DB – lol: To clarify – it’s not “my” post, it’s “our” post. We were writing this together by email for the last 2 days and you were supposed to be asleep when I posted it!

What’s even funnier is that we thought about listing all the great accomplishments the site’s made in the last year… but we had a feeling you’d be posting about that.

Congratulations, once again, and Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations NFZ! Although I find it suspicious that so many correspondents are foreigners. I don’t think “Stephen” would like that, but we all know that the ACTUAL Stephen Colbert loves this site.

    Great job guys!
