Hey, friends. DB found this quick clip at ShakedownSports of Stephen demonstrating his pitching prowess at Saturday’s RiverDogs game. Have a look, courtesy of YouTube:
Stephen Colbert Has An Electric Cannon
If you’ve ever wanted to know what Stephen Colbert looks like throwing out a ceremonial first pitch with a pint of his new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, this should answer your question. I love Colbert’s old school windup—it’s half Walter Johnson, half Hideo Nomo, and half Chris Farley.
Okay, so we couldn’t see from that angle whether he got it over the plate, but since he didn’t do the immediate “wince and laugh” that Jon did at the Mets game, I think we can assume it went well enough. Yay!
ON EDIT: WordsWithGrace pointed out a detail that deserves a mention: the back of Stephen’s jersey says “Colbert 08″. A cute nod to those “Stewart/Colbert ’08″ shirts and stickers that keep popping up? I’d venture to guess that’s the case . . .
SECOND UPDATE: From the comments:
Good catch. Me and one of my employees are big Colbert fans and I pointed out we should present him with a Colbert ‘08 jersey and my employee is the one who created the iPhone…complete with the apple on top!
Thanks for commenting, RiverDog!

@ riverdog:
I was wondering who picked the jersey number and if they really meant ’08! And I hope you gave your employee a bonus for the iPhone. It’s beautiful!

Well the catcher for the Riverdogs is 08, and they usually try to avoid using players number on other jerseys. Maybe Stephen did do it on purpose…

Now that I know who gave Stephen the Iphone, I updated the post at the Post-Normal Times to include the comment. Thanks RiverDog! If your employee would like some credit for that marvelous iphone, please leave a comment over there.
