Well, last night was the last new show until June 4, and if past trends are indicative of what is to come, the Colbert news is going to get slow, and our posts are going to get light until the show fires up again. But that’s Ok – it can’t be Jane Fonda/He’s Singin’ In Korean every week. But today we have lots of blurps and bits about Stephen that I’d like to share for this Friday, May 25, 2007.
Water Cooler Talk – or “Hey, did you see that on ‘The Colbert Report’ last night?”
- Colbert disses Plymouth, praises Jamestown – DailyPress.com: “Stephen Colbert, the satirical news show’s host, talked with author Bob Deans about his new book, “The River Where America Began: A Journey Along the James.” During a five-minute interview, Colbert and Deans discussed how Jamestown hasn’t gotten as much ink in history books as Plymouth, founded in 1620.”
- Persistence paying off for the president – Houston Chronicle: “Obey and other Democratic leaders are under attack by progressive Democrats who believed the regime change that brought Democrats to leadership in the House and Senate would mean a new direction on the war.
But that hasn’t happened, and as Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert tartly observed on the Colbert Report this week, “The president gets what he wants, and everyone else can bite it.””
- Shannon Malloy’s Blog – May 22 – The Denver Channel: This is the blog of the woman who had the internal decapitation – “I heard that last night I was on the Colbert Report? Sorry I missed that, I love that show!”
The embodiment of an “It-Getter”
- Congressman Phil Hare is a freshman, but no rookie -Associated Press (courtesy of Examiner.com): “When choosing a press secretary, Hare asked several applicants whether they would advise that he appear on “The Colbert Report,” a wacky program on television’s Comedy Central channel.
Hare chose the only one who backed the idea of being interviewed by comedian Stephen Colbert, even though some campaign strategists would argue against it.
“Going on `The Colbert Report’ for me is easier than having Tim Russert (of `Meet the Press’) grill you, because Colbert is fun,” said Hare. “I think it’s a good way to communicate with younger people.”
State Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline, said Hare handled Colbert well, with just enough tongue-in-cheek during the March telecast.
“It humanized Phil like nothing else had,” he said.”
The embodiment of someone who is not an “It-Getter”
- Past TV season was sweet and bitter – and overhyped – The Courier-Journal (Louisville, KY): “Most over-hyped cable show — “The Colbert Report” or “The Daily Show.” These Comedy Central news spoofs sometimes come up with some really funny stuff, but most of the material is just plain stupid.”
Gratuitous Name Dropping
- Full House Is Back! – TV Cocktail: “P.S. On a vaguely related topic, has anyone else noticed that Stephen Colbert looks an awful lot like Bob Saggat (Danny Tanner)? I was watching the Colbert Report tonight and kept noticing the similarities.”
The Answer: Sometimes, yeah. He kinda does.

- Creative Officially Presents Your Moment of Zen (Wav) – Mobile Magazine: “Sorry. These past couple of weeks, I’ve suddenly become a big fan of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, so I couldn’t help but to toss in a reference (if you get it, great, if not, then uh… that’s great too”
One of my friends doesn’t think Stephen Colbert is funny and whenever I bring him up she calls him Danny Tanner.
I think Stephen is way hotter than Bob Saget.

When I opened my Courier-Journal today and saw that ‘overhyped’ bit I wondered if it would appear here.
The man gave me a nice laugh, at least.

I am greatly disturbed to see the report in the Louisville Courier-Journal about TCR/TDS being “overhyped” and “stupid” since they are the ones who quoted me by name when I suggested that John Yarmuth, who was on BKAD a few months ago, should answer “He’s the ‘greatinest’” if Stephen asked his standard question of “George Bush: great president or greatest president?” Alas, while the paper’s Metro Notebook reporter is obviously “with it,” Tom Dorsey is, clearly, not.

I always kind of saw the odd resemblance between Stephen and the Sagget, but was too scared to say anything -_-’

Hm.. I always thought the Colbert-Saget comparisons were silly but after seeing the second and third pair of pics, I can see it.

No matter how much Bob Saggat may look like Stephen, Bob Saggat looks NOTHING like Stephen! >:(

Another thing that helps along the comparison…
…Sagat’s incontinence-inducingly filthy (in a good way) rendition of “The Aristocrats” joke (as seen in Penn Jillette’s film, “The Aristocrats”).
(Not that I’m crazy about promoting Jillette these days, despite finding that movie hi-LAR-ious. Did anyone else catch Jillette’s podcast after his TCR appearance in which he seemed to be slamming Colbert and TCR? What was that?)

Another reason Jamestown doesn’t get props– everyone who went there died. At the time the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts in 1620, something like ten times as many people had died in Jamestown as still lived there. It was for exactly this reason that the Crown took over the colony a few years later (after the massacre).
