Goslin Awarded Second Consecutive OHL Executive of the Year Honors
Saginaw Spirit President and Managing Partner Craig Goslin has been named the OHL Executive of the Year for the 2006-07 season. Goslin has spearheaded the Spirit’s business side efforts, which resulted in generating over $1.5 million in corporate advertising and 2,600 season tickets during the 2006-07 season. The year also saw Saginaw hosting the 2007 OHL All-Star Classic and the beginnings of the Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle saga seen on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, featuring host Stephen Colbert.
“It is a great accomplishment and tribute to Craig’s devotion to both our franchise and our league,” stated Spirit owner Richard J. Garber, “It is also a great compliment to his outstanding staff.”
“First I would like to thank [Spirit Owner] Dick Garber, the OHL Executive Council, our corporate clients and season ticket holders, Stephen Colbert and the staff over at The Colbert Report.” Stated Goslin, “It is a true honor for myself and the entire Saginaw Spirit staff to be selected for this award. If I did anything well, I hired well. I am surrounded by what I feel is the best staff in sports. This organization’s business staff puts their heart and soul into the Saginaw Spirit and the development of the entire OHL in general”.
Goslin, a native of Bay City MI, was also awarded the honor for the 2005-06 season. The last OHL executive to go back-to back was Jim Rutherford of the Detroit Jr. Red Wings (now the Plymouth Whalers); he won the award for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons.

Goslin and his staff introduced a new mascot during the 2006-07 regular season, which was named “Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle” following a campaign by Stephen Colbert from the Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” who encouraged his international television audience to vote for the name on the Spirit website. People from all parts of the globe were exposed to the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club and the entire Ontario Hockey League through this campaign. Stephen Colbert has continued to cover “Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle” as a regular feature on weekly or bi-weekly basis on “The Colbert Report”.
