THE BLOGOSPHERE ERUPTS! – Kiss The Host (Jane Fonda on ‘The Colbert Report’)

Apparently much of the blogosphere found the squirmingly awkward makeout session on “The Colbert Report” as amusing as we did. And the titles of the blog posts are as amusing as the posts themselves. I mean, how does one describe the interview? It’s pure silliness. Here’s a collection of some of the places who are talking about last night’s episode:

• ICYMI: Jane Fonda Makes Out With Stephen Colbert – Best Week Ever: “I have never seen Stephen Colbert get flustered before, but it happened last night on ‘The Colbert Report’. Jane Fonda was on the show to promote her new movie ‘Georgia Rule’, and she was on fire. Jane started the interview by going over, sitting on Stephen’s lap then kissing him. And Stephen Colbert–the man who has embarrassed countless politicians by putting them into awkward situations–just doesn’t seem to know what to do when put in an awkward situation. What followed was one of the most sexually awkward four minutes of television I’ve seen in a while. You just keep waiting for her to end the joke, get off his lap and go into a normal interview… but she never does. My respect for Jane Fonda has skyrocketed. It’s not enough to get me to actually go see ‘Georgia Rule’, granted, but still, it’s getting closer…”
• Jane Fonda Hearts Stephen Colbert – Broadcasting & Cable: “That watching Jane Fonda nuzzle the ear of the usually unflappable Mr. Colbert and transforming him into a bashful, giggling and flummoxed sixteen-year-old boy basically made my day. Okay. My week. “
• Jane Fonda fondles a nervous Stephen Colbert – Raw Story: “”Appearing uncharacteristically nervous, Colbert then asks Fonda a question about war protesting as she continues to straddle him and kiss his face. She finally responds, “We cannot elect men to office that are afraid of premature evacuation.”

• Jane Fonda gets cozy with Stephen Colbert – VIDEO – TV Squad: “So in her return visit — she was there to promote her new movie Georgia Rule — Fonda stepped up the flirtation by not just kissing Stephen, but sitting on his lap throughout the entire interview. Stephen, usually pretty prepared for anything during those interviews, obviously didn’t expect that to happen, and seemed flustered and a little bashful during the segment (apparently, even at 69, Fonda can do that to a guy).”

Nice to see she hasn’t lost her touch. Colby, no doubt having seen ‘Barbarella’, is thinking, “This would have been so hot 75 years ago.”“
• Fonda on Colbert (Literally) – Film Experience Blog : “How much do I love Jane Fonda? More than you know. She spent last night maximizing Georgia Rule’s promo opportunity on The Colbert Report by sitting on Steven Colbert’s lap and flirting outrageously. This, boring celebrities everywhere, is how it’s done. You should be entertaining off screen as well. Because of an earlier episode in which she had unexpectedly kissed him, Colbert had put his Fonda fantasies “on notice” (hee) and he was visibly and adorably flustered at her forwardness on this return visit.”

What other show could get references to lesbian covens, freaky three-ways and Gloria Steinem into the same interview? This almost makes me want to see “Georgia Rule.” Almost. As Colbert himself would say, “She nailed it!””

• Stephen’s Sound Advice: Next time, leave the “Kiss The Host” apron backstage – Meow House: “I’m not normally one to revel in schadenfreude, but oh my this was glorious to catch Stephen completely flustered and tongue-tied. He so often gets his guests all flummoxed themselves, with his double-plus-good faux-neocon rhetoric, and this time he could barely keep the conversation on track. He’s often a giant flirt anyway with female guests but usually he’s the one flirting and they are just following his lead. Last night Jane just bowled him over. In a way, this is really his own fault, having had an entire segment in January of this year devoted to having to put his fantasies of Jane Fonda “On Notice”; Jane mentioned this disapprovingly last night and told him firmly, “You don’t do that, Stephen … you embrace your fantasies.” The poor man was half-terrified to move, I think; his hand never budged from the armrest the whole time, probably for fear that it would encourage her to do god-knows-what on national TV. Either he was totally unhinged or he’s the greatest and most under-rated dramatic actor working today.”
