Seen in Santa Cruz: Stephen Colbert “relieving” himself against the side of a building

Okay, not exactly. But if you were at Santa Cruz’s Guerilla Drive-In on Thursday, April 12th, you would have seen the Daily Show classic, “So You’re Living In a Police State” projected onto the side of a building in downtown Santa Cruz. It’s not every night you can experience a giant, 20-foot-tall image of late-night wiseguy Stephen Colbert, uh, “answering nature’s call” projected onto a building. But, obviously, Thursday night wasn’t your ordinary night in downtown Santa Cruz.

Getting a good share of the laughs on Thursday was the Colbert piece, from his highly rated Comedy Central show “The Colbert Report,” which was jauntily titled “So You Live in a Police State.” It was a satire on government surveillance and police intrusion into private life that was in jarring contrast to many of the earnest documentary-style shorts about Santa Cruz politics.
