From the ‘Say What?’ Blog on the CNet.news site:
Say what? Colbert thinks ‘nerds suck at sports’
March 15, 2007 11:30 AM PDT
Posted by Caroline McCarthyOn Wednesday night’s episode of his late-night talk show ‘The Colbert Report‘, comedian and Jimmy Wales enemy Stephen Colbert explained his “insider tips” for betting on the NCAA basketball tournament. And he had some mean things to say about us geeks.
“Just toss out any schools with the word ‘Tech’ in their names,” Colbert explained. “Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Texas Tech–sorry, Bobby Knight.” Then, Colbert elaborated on his reasoning: “‘Tech’ means nerd, and nerds suck at sports. You cannot block a shot with a solar-powered calculator.”
Note to Mr. Colbert: Considering you were the one who hosted a lightsaber video contest, you might want to think about the fact that you’re attacking your own species.

Well yea, of course he’s a major nerd. That’s why I took his advice – he knows of what he speaks.

Oh, please. Poor Stephen, he can’t say anything in the name of comedy anymore.

People, it’s called comedy for pete’s sake! Do people never learn to laugh at themselves anymore? Of course he knows he’s a nerd. Like we’ve never made a self deprecating joke before. On top of that, he’s in character and his whole show is a satire. As in NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

Um, I think CNet was being a little tongue-in-cheek.
