The pain and suffering of appearing on ‘The Colbert Report’

Apparently when Nicolas Kristof was on the show on Monday night, he was having some issues.

Darn that Colbert!

I took a tumble last Saturday while on my regularly daily run, but I didn’t think much of it. My chest hurt, but I figured it would go away.

When I taped the Colbert show on Monday evening, Colbert inevitably made me laugh — which hurt but seemed worth it. Then on Tuesday I had to cut my run short because it was hurting too much, and I went to see the doctor today.

He took an X-ray, and it turns out I broke a rib last Saturday when I fell during my run. Fortunately, broken ribs apparently tend to heal on their own, so the doctor gave me something for pain but otherwise said I’d knit together without any special treatment. I’m still leaving Saturday for Afghanistan and Pakistan; I may as well suffer there as here.

But I won’t go running and I won’t go on the Colbert show soon unless he promises not to make me laugh.

Thanks to MsInterpreted for the tip!

Poor guy. I guess laughter isn’t the best cure after all.
