Oshawa has big plans for Stephen Colbert Day!

The Comedy Network of Canada has a press release out regarding the plans for Stephen Colbert Day. Here’s the info on the event, how to get tickets, and the Look-Alike contest. (Emphasis added)

Plans Underway for Stephen Colbert Day ‘Grin and Bear It’ Event March 20

Festival Features Comedian Darrin Rows, Live Entertainment and The Comedy Network’s “Stephen Colbert Look-A-Like Contest” – Tickets Only $5!!

OSHAWA – The March 20 Stephen Colbert Day Festival – “Grin and Bear It” – will take place at the new state-of-the-art General Motors Centre located in downtown Oshawa, 99 Athol Street East.

Tickets for the event are $5 and are available at the General Motors Centre or at Ticketmaster outlets (visit www.ticketmaster.ca or call 905-433-9494). All proceeds from the event will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Doors open at 7:00 pm with the Grand Opening of Prospects Bar & Grill (the General Motors Centre’s two-storey restaurant) followed by the event opening ceremonies with local station, Rogers Television, Carolyn Ellis & Jerry Archer of KX96FM’s Morning Show, and special guest emcee Tom Hayes, anchor and reporter for CTV News Toronto. Other event highlights include entertainment featuring comedian Darrin Rows and music by Two For The Show, as well as a hockey challenge between the Oshawa Generals and Saginaw Spirit.

“We have lots of special surprises planned for this great community event and we are very much looking forward The Colbert Report’s involvement in the festivities,” said Mayor John Gray.

The Comedy Network is holding a “Stephen Colbert Look-A-Like Contest.” The winner will be crowned at Oshawa’s Stephen Colbert Day and will receive a trip for two to New York City including tickets to an actual live taping of The Colbert Report. There will be free cake for the first 4,000 guests and every attendee will receive a free Dr Pepper, which is Mr. Colbert’s favourite soft drink!

Rogers Television is LIVE to air at 8:00 pm so come and be a part of the broadcast. Rogers will also be screening a made for Colbert Day short feature, revealing the story of how the whole “Colbert Affair” started.

  1. Wow, this sounds like it’s shaping up to be a real Stephen-con. I’m still debating whether or not to drive up to Toronto/Oshawa from Chicago for a couple of days since I’m off for winter break then … but if there’s a prospect of Stephen being there I’d definitely go for it.

    Do we know if Stephen taping the week of the 20th? Or if he is would it be too insane for them to move the show to Canada, or at least get a crew over there?

    Yes, but I would have thought they’d have confirmed their involvement/attendance by now. I’ve been e-chatting with one of the communications people with the city of Oshawa and I get the sense that a lot of work has gone into this. It’d be nice to know that it’s appreciated…
