The “Private Eye” section of Allure magazine (February 2007 issue) gets celebrities to answer the question, “Which scents do you love or hate?”
Some immediately thought outside the bottle, including The O.C. actress Willa Holland, for whom the scent of fashion is enticing: “I love the smell of a fresh handbag or new shoes.” Even though spirits may ignite a party, reeking of it is a total buzz-kill. “I hate the smell of liquor…it’s like laundry detergent,” said Maria Menounos, Martha Stewart named scotch as the worst offender.
Stephen Colbert revealed a surprisingly paternal instinct: “They should bottle the smell of a baby’s head…. Rub that on your neck.” Rachel Dratch’s olfactory preferences are infantile, in a different way: “I can only think of crude answers,” she said.

I think there’s another meaning hidden there – U2 has a song where Bono sings “freedom has a scent like the top of a new born baby’s head”.
…and we all know Stephen loves freedom.
I love it when Stephen intentionally cracks jokes that most people won’t get.
