According to the front flap, Michael Eric Dyson’s newest book, Debating Race, is a collection of “his previously unpublished intellectual encounters–cordial and combative– with some of today’s most influential thinkers and politicians.” Included in that list of influential thinkers is Dr. Stephen T. Colbert himself. Dyson appeared on ‘The Colbert Report’ on February 22, 2006, and the transcript of that lively discussion is one of the chapters in the book.
You can watch Drs. Colbert and Dyson discuss post-Katrina New Orleans on Comedy Central’s media player here.
Unfortunately, the available clip does not include the wonderful insert preceding this with Reverend Al Sharpton wishing Stephen a happy Black History Month, adding “Keep up the good work!”

Our Stephen is doing a great thing by keeping the dialogue open on race, in his own weird way. He lampoons a mindset that is all too common.
