PREVIEW: Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn) Inteviewed for BKAD

By Jennie on February 10th, 2007 ·

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that Stephen interviewed Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee’s Fightin’ 9th yesterday for an as yet unscheduled segment of Better Know a District.

I make a Spoiler Alert here as Better-Known Congresspeople and their press secretaries like to predict what will appear on the show. Fortunately for us they are rarely correct and the predictions can be considered ‘behind the scenes’ info. If you really want to be safe – bookmark the article and read it after the segment airs.

Defying advice, Cohen takes on TV’s Colbert

Against the advice of friends and fellow Congress members, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., mixed it up with Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert on Friday, explaining, among other things, why he votes like a black woman.

“It was easy. It was fun kind of jousting with him,” Cohen said afterward. “Of course, he has the advantage of editing; we don’t know what comes out.”

Colbert showed Cohen his collection of political buttons, including an “Impeach Al Franken,” the liberal comedian and talk-show host considering a run for the Senate in Minnesota.

In reply, Cohen said he flipped his jacket lapel over to show Colbert his hidden “Member of the Colbert Nation” pin.

“He made Colbert laugh a lot,” said Dillihay. “Unfortunately, nobody besides us will ever see that.”

You know, I’m going to have to check my order history to see if that “Colbert Nation” button was ordered from my Cafepress store.
