Space appearance on ‘The Colbert Report’ airs tonight
By KYLE KONDIK, T-R Staff WriterU.S. Rep. Zack Space of Dover – perhaps against his better judgment – is scheduled to appear on the mock political talk show “The Colbert Report” tonight.
“I’m almost afraid to watch it,” said the freshman Democrat and former Dover law director.
. . .
Space doesn’t know what to expect.
“I’m a little worried at what he came up with,” he said, adding that he was laughing during “99 percent” of the interview.
During the session, which took place in a Washington office, Colbert offered Space – who is of Greek heritage – a plate of stuffed grape leaves, a Greek dish. Inside the grape leaves were rolls of fake $100 bills, Space said, a not-so-subtle jab at the ethics pledge Space promoted during his campaign to replace the scandal-ridden and now prison-bound ex-Rep. Bob Ney.
Space’s chief of staff, Stuart Chapman, sounded a bit anxious but not too worried about how his boss would look on the show.
“I think it’s all in good fun,” he said.
Editor’s note: This is a change in the originally scheduled air date as reported in the Chillicothe Gazette, which had indicated that Space’s segment would air on February 7, 2007.
