One of my favorite finds is comments from people who were mentioned on ‘The Colbert Report’. So I was delighted when I found this article this morning. And not only was there a reaction, but a gauntlet was thrown down as well from Mayor Gray. From the Durham Region News:
Mayor Gray vs. Stephen Colbert
Late night comedian takes aim at Oshawa
Jan 20, 2007
By Jillian FollertOSHAWA — Mayor John Gray is going head-to-head with late-night comedy royalty.
Oshawa unexpectedly found itself in the limelight this week, when comedian Stephen Colbert took a few playful swipes at the Oshawa Generals, the new downtown arena and even General Motors, on his popular television show, The Colbert Report.
…
“I had a great laugh about it,” said Mayor John Gray, after watching the show. “It’s great to see Oshawa get a little attention.”
Not to be outdone by Mr. Colbert’s challenge, Mayor Gray is issuing one right back at him.
If the Generals win the Jan. 26 game against the Spirit, he wants to see Mr. Colbert wear a Gens jersey on his show. If the Generals lose — “which they will not,” the mayor said — Mr. Colbert’s May 13 birthday will be declared “Colbert Day” in the City of Oshawa.
The mayor’s office sent details of the challenge to Mr. Colbert’s publicist on Thursday. No word yet on whether he has accepted.
General Motors spokeswoman Patty Faith and Oshawa Generals owner John Davies did not respond to requests for comment.
