Saginaw Spirit still loves Colbert
ByI found a nice little article about Tom Pyatt, a hockey player for the Saginaw Spirit, in the “Thunder Bay’s Source” (and can I just say I totally want to get a cat and name it after the article’s author):
Pyatt was caught off-guard when Colbert came calling

The Ontario Hockey League team held a contest on its website to pick a name for its secondary mascot for the 2006-07 season.
Funnyman Stephen Colbert, host of the mock news show The Colbert Report, caught wind of the contest and decided to play along, eventually convincing the team to name the mascot after him.
Pyatt must be an early-to-bed kind of guy, because he said he was in the dark when Colbert started his lobbying efforts.
“It’s pretty great. I didn’t even know who he was back in the summer,” said Pyatt, whose team adopted the name Steagle Colbeagle for the baby eagle mascot.
The Spirit immediately went on to win seven straight games.
Pyatt said the team has definitely hit the hockey map since Colbert, whose love of himself is only slightly outweighed by his love of all things conservative, got involved with the Michigan-based team.
“Ever since we’ve been with him, it’s been kind of a cool thing. It’s kind of put our team on the map in America.
People from Europe and California are ordering jerseys from our team, and stuff. He’s done a pretty good job of putting us out there,” said Pyatt.
