Who’s Honoring Stephen Colbert Now (or at least trying)? Marketwatch!

By DB on November 10th, 2006 ·

As most of the regular readers of this blog know, this blog is primarily interested in discussing the news about Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Nation, his dedicated group of fans. However, sometimes the news is a great big suck-up attempt. I like those – I love feeling united with others who feel my passion and admiration for such a great man.

So here’s the suck-up article from Marketwatch:

Time should name Stewart, Colbert as POY
Commentary: The Person of the Year honor would be appropriate

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) – I think Time magazine should name Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to be its Person(s) of the Year.
Even if you merely think of them as comedians, Stewart and Colbert reflect the restless mood of our nation. Each expresses the disgust of the electorate by personifying the growing “fake-news” boom. It has become a rallying cry for the disenchantment of millions of Americans. As the Republican leadership learned the hard way on Election Day, the country is fed up.
Further, the movement that Stewart and Colbert have hilariously helped spawn has invaded the popular culture. Look at Sacha Baron Cohen’s flick “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” the “it” movie of the season and a box office pacesetter.

On Nov. 14, Time will host a panel discussion to debate possible candidates, featuring NBC News anchor Brian Williams, HuffingtonPost Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington, actor/director Emilio Estevez, former House Majority Leader TomDeLay and Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, N.J. The actual decision will be made by Time editors in December.
