My entirely unscientific news report on YouTube clips being put back on YouTube

By DB on November 1st, 2006 ·

The New York Post reports that Viacom relesed this statement on Tuesday:

“Like our peers in the media industry, we are focused on finding the right business model for professionally created content to be legally distributed on the Internet,” Viacom officials wrote yesterday in a statement.

“We want our audiences to be able to access our programming on every platform and we’re interested in having it live on all forms of distribution in ways that protect our talented artists, our loyal customers and our passionate audiences.”

Remember I posted my list of videos that were gone as of Monday? And a link to my YouTube favorites? Just for grins, I checked on my “Favorites” videos again. Yesterday, in my favorites section for The Colbert Report clips, three were missing. You know how many are missing now? Ten. Ten out of 14 are gone now. Oh, and my “Ten F@#king Years – Even Stepven” is gone now too.

So just so you know, in my very unscientific study I did on only the clips I own, they are going away again. Viacom’s purge does not look complete and the conflicting news stories are getting more confusing by the hour.

Hm. That’s depressing.

Well, I had an account with one TDS clip where I took out “daily show” from the keywords when the purge started, but it just got taken down yesterday. So I’m pretty sure the purge is continuing.
