The half-hour show has become a political phenomenon of sorts with House members lining up to be interviewed by the ever-sardonic Stephen Colbert, even if they look rather silly in the end.

Now, it seems the show also has become a campaign tool.

Last week, Sexton was the first challenger to appear on “The Colbert Report” when his opponent, Rep. James Saxton, R-Mount Holly, declined.

Tonight, a segment with 5th District candidate Paul Aronsohn is expected to air. His opponent, Rep. Scott Garrett, R-Wantage, could not fit “The Colbert Report” into his schedule.

….

Aronsohn said his interns were big fans of the show and had urged him to contact Colbert. He won’t see the final product — a 90-minute interview distilled into no more than six minutes — until tonight.

But he isn’t worried.

“I don’t know if there is an advantage,” Aronsohn said. “It was more a fun thing to do.”
