This whole Naming Stuff After Stephen Colbert thing is really catching on!

I literally laughed out loud today when I found this news report from the East Valley Tribune, a daily Arizona news for Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale (emphasis added):

Resolved in Queen Creek: It’s Ellsworth Loop Road

If some Queen Creek residents had their choice in naming the Ellsworth Loop Road, the name might have reached celebrity status.

But the Queen Creek Town Council dashed the hopes of residents pulling for the name “Stephen Colbert Loop,” after a Comedy Central political comedian, when they voted to make Ellsworth Loop Road its official name.

“Stephen Colbert Loop” was suggested in 14 of the 30 e-mails the town received.

“I thought the name was of a local war hero, then I looked on the Web and realized my leg was being pulled,” said Dick Schaner, the town’s special transportation projects coordinator.

Walker Texas Ranger actor Chuck Norris also got a nod in the e-mailed recommendations, as did family names and others that just sounded nice, said Laura Catanese, with the town’s public works department, who sorted through the suggestions.
