Yeah, OK, so I’m stealing the title of this blog post from a “Daily Show” segment. Well, it IS a slow news day, and since this blog revolves around the buzz about Stephen Colbert in the news and in the blogosphere, when there is no Colbert News, I have nothing to blog about. I guess that’s my dirty little secret – this truly is a Garbage In, Garbage Out setup.
With this post, I’ve created a new post category called “Zeitgeist”. The purpose of this post category (other than the fact that in the August 2006 Wired magazine, Stephen says to “use the word ‘zeitgeist’ as often as possible”) is to blog instances of mentions of Stephen Colbert in the flotsam of pop culture references. Not only is it important that he’s in the news, it’s also important that he becomes the footnote of punchlines throughout the pop culture zeitgeist. And there goes that word again. I’m pretty sure I’m using it right.
In other words, if Colbert is mentioned in an interesting story or blog post that is not specifically about him, but references him in a hip pop culture iconic type of way, it goes in the Zeitgeist category.
Anyway, so I’m sharing this quote, from Overheard in New York. OINY is a very amusing project, and I’ve been known to get lost for hours reading the site. Anyway, here’s the quote:
Kind of Your Job, Stephen. Ours, Too.
Stephen Colbert: Coxsackie. It’s something that kids get when they eat their poop, or even worse, someone else’s poop. It’s highly contagious. For instance, in those playpens, with the plastic balls? Sometimes they lick the balls, and they get coxsackie…God, that sounded so wrong.
